Solid preventive care is the foundation for your oral and overall health. Good at-home hygiene habits, in combination with professional cleanings, can keep your smile free from decay and other oral health issues like gum disease. Regular exams allow us to monitor your oral health so you can address any minor concerns before they become larger, more costly, and more invasive issues.

Diagnostic & Prevention

We understand that life gets busy, and scheduling your routine dental exam isn't always at the top of your to-do list. But remember, skipping your appointments can cost even more time and money in the future. Coming in twice a year allows us to catch small issues before they become time-consuming, expensive problems. Routine dental visits typically take about an hour and play an important role in protecting your oral health. Our team is dedicated to providing comfortable, personalized care while helping you maintain a healthy, confident smile through preventive dentistry.

Cleaning & Hygiene

Regular dental cleanings and hygiene appointments form the foundation of preventive care, helping to keep your teeth, gums, and smile healthy. During your cleaning, we will thoroughly cleanse your teeth and gums, removing any plaque or debris from every surface in your mouth. You’ll even be able to reverse minor stains to keep your smile bright and beautiful. We customize your preventive care schedule based on your oral health needs. While many patients benefit from cleanings and exams every six months, some may require more frequent visits to help maintain optimal oral health.

However, good oral hygiene shouldn’t stop when you leave our office. Keeping up with your at-home brushing and flossing routine is equally as important as attending professional cleanings, and is the best way to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Use a fluoride-rich toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes at a time; and don’t forget to floss! Flossing at least once every day, ideally before going to bed, helps to get rid of food particles, plaque, and bacteria that can’t be removed with brushing alone.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are a safe, fast, and comfortable way to evaluate your oral health. Using advanced imaging technology, we capture clear, high-resolution images of your teeth, gums, and supporting structures, allowing us to make accurate diagnoses and develop personalized treatment plans.

Compared to traditional film X-rays, digital X-rays use significantly less radiation while providing exceptional image quality. Most patients receive routine X-rays as part of their preventive care, though additional imaging may be recommended if you're experiencing a dental emergency or if we need a closer look at a specific area of concern.

Digital X-Rays

Advanced 3D Imaging

Our CBCT 3D imaging gives us a detailed, three-dimensional view of your teeth, roots, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses—areas that may not be fully visible on traditional dental X-rays.This advanced technology can help us identify infections, impacted teeth, bone concerns, and other problems while also providing valuable information for procedures such as implants and extractions.By seeing more of what’s happening beneath the surface, we can diagnose concerns earlier and plan your care with greater precision.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments can provide an added layer of protection against tooth decay by strengthening and remineralizing tooth enamel. As part of your personalized preventive care plan, we may recommend a professional fluoride treatment to help reduce your risk of cavities and keep your smile healthy.

This quick, comfortable treatment is applied directly to the teeth following your cleaning appointment. After treatment, we may recommend avoiding eating or drinking for a short period of time to allow the fluoride to fully absorb. By strengthening enamel and making it more resistant to acid attacks from plaque, bacteria, and sugary foods, fluoride can play an important role in maintaining long-term oral health.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a simple, non-invasive treatment used to help stop cavities from progressing and protect weakened areas of a tooth. It can be especially helpful for young children, patients with dental anxiety, or situations where traditional treatment may need to be delayed. The application is quick, comfortable, and can help reduce sensitivity while preserving tooth structure and slowing decay from getting worse.

Dental Sealants

While often associated with children's dentistry, adults can benefit just as much from this proven preventive treatment. Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the deep grooves of your back teeth where decay often starts. Even with diligent brushing, these microscopic crevices can trap food and bacteria. Dental sealants create a smooth, protective barrier that's nearly invisible and can last for years, significantly reducing your risk of cavities. It's a quick, painless procedure that can save you time and money by preventing more extensive dental work down the road. If you're cavity-prone or want to take a proactive approach to your dental health, ask us about whether sealants could be right for you.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer screenings are a part of every preventive visit, and are a quick way to fortify your peace of mind. Through consistent exams, we can catch oral cancer early on, which gives us a better chance at treating it before it spreads. A routine oral cancer screening can even save your life!

Your dentist will examine your gums, tongue, and the rest of the soft tissues in your mouth, keeping an eye out for lesions and other abnormalities like lumps and discolorations. Regular oral cancer screenings allow us to identify any potential problems before they become major issues.

Occlusal Guards

An occlusal guard, often called a night guard, is a custom-made appliance designed to protect your teeth from the effects of clenching and grinding. While many people grind their teeth during sleep, others may clench or grind throughout the day without even realizing it. Over time, these habits can lead to worn teeth, jaw discomfort, headaches, tooth sensitivity, and even damage to dental restorations.

Custom occlusal guards create a protective barrier between your upper and lower teeth, helping to reduce excessive wear and relieve pressure on the jaw joints and muscles. If you experience symptoms of teeth grinding, clenching, or jaw pain, our team can evaluate your needs and determine whether a custom night guard is right for you.

Sports Guards

Sports guards are worn over the teeth, and are specifically designed to protect your mouth from oral trauma caused by high-impact sports. Many sports put players at risk for dental injuries caused by collisions to the mouth, face, or head, but a custom-fitted sports guard can help protect you from chipping, cracking, or knocking out a tooth. Tailored to fit your unique smile, sports guards are both comfortable and durable, so you can play the sports you love without missing a beat.

A sports guard is essential if you’re an athlete who plays football, basketball, baseball, soccer, rugby, hockey, gymnastics, mountain biking, or if you participate in any other activities that put you at risk for injury due to falling, body contact, or flying objects.

The entire office staff is amazing, friendly professional, but I must shout out Rikki. She dealt with my insurance company for months to get my claim paid. It’s a tough job and I appreciate all that she did.

I cannot recommend Dr. Chaney enough. I traveled from Washington, DC for my appointment, and it was absolutely worth it. The technology he and his team use is outstanding, creating so much trust compared to traditional X-rays because you can see in real time the health of your teeth, gums, and mouth. Dr. Chaney takes the time to walk you through every step, answers questions thoroughly, and never makes you feel uncomfortable about your teeth. His recommendations are thoughtful and helpful, never pushy. He is a true delight, and his staff are equally wonderful. They made the entire experience seamless, comfortable, and even enjoyable. I would highly recommend Dr. Chaney and his team to anyone looking for excellent dental care.
